Dia de Muertos is a public holiday in Mexico and is also celebrated in other regions throughout the world. It is held annually Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2. The focus of the holiday is for family and friends to gather together and pray for and remember those friends and family members who have died. According to Grand Solmar Timeshare, the prayers and rituals are also meant to help support their spiritual journey.
In one Dia de Muertos tradition, people bring gifts to the graves of the deceased, including sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed. People also leave some possessions of the deceased at their graves. Some people also build private altars called friends.
