If you were in Cabo last week for fishing, golf or a relaxing stay at a GSVC resort, you also might have noticed the buzz around the iconic downtown landmark the Cabo Wabo Cantina. This famous bar and grill owned by Rock and Roll legend Sammy Hagar, is the spot where Sammy chooses to spend his birthday and host his annual birthday bash. Red Heads, which are his loyal fan following, descend upon Cabo for a week long party that goes from the ticket line on the streets and sidewalks, to the cantina for the series of shows Sammy performs. This year, three shows were held, plus a free acoustic show Sammy performed on October 8th. The 9th, 11th and the Birthday show on 10/13 were the three ticketed events held, with Sammy Hagar, his band The Circle, even Toby Keith made a special guests appearance. The cantina was packed and everyone was in good spirits as Sammy celebrated his 71st birthday in the town he loves and has helped put on the map!
The Cabo Wabo cantina truly is a Cabo landmark. Built by Sammy Hagar and his partners, it has been a major draw for several decades, and the spot that is frequented by several entertainers all year long. Being Sammy’s bar, often times Sammy will stop in for a surprise concert, or other entertainers will play surprise shows. This year different entertainers at the Cantina can surprise, Adam Levine put on an impromptu concert earlier this year. They also have amazing food and drinks from great mojitos and margaritas, to burgers and wraps, and full pub fare and Mexican cuisine.
For those wanting to experience Sammy’s Birthday bash in 2019, keep a close watch on the ticket lottery online. Or if you are a real die-hard or wanna-be Redhead jump in line and hang out for about 36 hours, to buy an exclusive “dinner-show” ticket. These include dinner and are the first ones allowed inside the cantina before general admission, meaning they are closest to the stage and the action. Tickets were $71 dollars a great number for Mr. Hagar’s special day. The cantina and Sammy Hagar are also very generous and they donate many signed items, concert tickets, and the world famous Cabo Wabo tequila to a local charity, which is the favorite of the Redhead fans; ADLN or Amigos de Los Niños. The concerts are great, the food is great, the causes they support are great, and of course, it’s great to be in Cabo!
